Dear Colleagues,

We've had reports of patrons receiving either "invalid certificate" security
warnings or "trouble fetching collections" warnings when trying to access
Libby on some iOS devices. Here's why:

After September 30th, the web certificate provider Let's Encrypt stopped
supporting certain older operating systems and browsers. This shift was not
exclusive to OverDrive: Let's Encrypt certificates are used to create secure
connections on many websites and apps, so many other services were affected.
(You can read more about the technical reasons behind the change here
<https://letsencrypt.org/docs/certificate-compatibility/> .) While it has
increased security, one unfortunate result of this change is that Libby is
no longer compatible devices that use iOS 9.

Overdrive recommends that users who encounter certificate errors update
their operating system or browser version if possible. All iOS devices that
were released after 2012 can update to iOS 10 or newer, which is compatible
with Let's Encrypt. Apple has instructions on how to update different
devices available here <https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204204> .

Please place a ticket in the Help Desk (help at suffolknet.org) if you have
further questions.
