[SCLA] ANNOUNCEMENT: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service program - Friday, Jan. 23, 2026

District Administrative Judge Hon. Andrew Crecca is pleased to share that the Suffolk County Courts, with the support and assistance of the Touro Law Center,  are launching the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service program, which will offer *free legal services to the public* for one day on Friday, January 23, 2026, in the Central Jury Room at the John P. Cohalan Jr. Court Complex in Central Islip in honor of Dr. King’s legacy of service and civic engagement.

The Day of Service program is a new opportunity in the courthouse for the public to be assisted in completing and filing documents necessary to commence select cases in Family Court or Supreme Court. *Participation requires pre-registration.* To see its full reach and effect, therefore, we are reaching out to ask for your assistance in helping the court promote this important community initiative. Attached, you will find the official press release and event flier (in English and Spanish) that contains more details on available legal services and pre-registration information. We would greatly appreciate your support in physically and electronically distributing these materials throughout your professional networks, in your newsletters and media channels, and in any other appropriate outlets.

*Printed fliers will be distributed to libraries via SCLS bins.
