Yes, some of our group really do have abs of steel! The longer answer is that most people plank for a minute and then do a minute of side plank (30 each side). They did a planksgiving challenge years ago and kept going. I like to join in but can’t plank, so I usually do balance exercises or squats for that time and we then all do the mobility together. 😊

Hi folks!



We’ve recently started the certification process here in Ames, Iowa, and are looking forward to hearing from other libraries and maybe finding some answers to our questions.



A couple things that might be useful to other libraries:



To help organize our SLCP tasks we made an Excel spreadsheet with all the action items (from the Action Item Form) on it, as well as spaces for notes about how long each might take, who we might need to contact, and who’s taking point on each task. We can share that document if anyone else would find it helpful!



On the wellness/resilience side of things, we have “plank time” at noon every day. Mostly attended by staff with desk jobs (marketing, tech services), it’s a great way to get up and get moving. We do 2 minutes of plank or alternate activity, 5 minutes of mobility exercise, and 10 additional minutes of weight work. It has evolved over the years based on what we find helpful and has been shaped by our city fitness challenges.



We are curious about which Midwest libraries have finished certification or are in the process, we’d love to swap stories.
