Dear Library Colleagues,

Every day, library workers across Suffolk County do something remarkable.
You answer the question no one else could. You help a job seeker land the
interview, a teenager find their voice, a senior connect with family, and a
new neighbor feel at home. You protect the freedom to read and the right to
know. You are the foundation of information in our communities, and you
deserve a night that celebrates exactly that.

On Wednesday, October 21, we come together for the SCLA Annual Dinner, the
library networking event of the year.

This night is for everyone who makes libraries work: pages, clerks,
librarians, IT staff, custodians, programmers, managers, directors, and
trustees. If you are new to the field, this is where you meet the mentors,
colleagues, and friends who will shape your career. If you are a seasoned
professional, this is where your experience lifts the next generation, and
where we get to thank you for everything you have built.

*ANNUAL DINNER TOY DRIVE*
Libraries have always been about giving back, and this year we are
extending that spirit beyond our walls. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy
to the dinner. Every donation benefits Angels of Long Island, Inc. in
Patchogue, whose mission is simple and powerful: neighbors helping
neighbors. Together, we can make the holidays brighter for children right
here in our communities. A stuffed animal, a building set, a book, a game:
every toy makes a difference. Let's see how high we can stack the table.

*WHY IT MATTERS*
Libraries are facing real challenges, from tight budgets to efforts to
limit what people can read. Our strength has always been each other. SCLA
is the collective voice for library workers in Suffolk County: advocating,
connecting, and growing the profession together. When we show up for each
other, we show up for every community we serve.

So take the night. Bring a coworker. Bring the new hire who hasn't met
anyone outside the building yet. Bring the colleague who has held
everything together all year. And bring a toy. Let's fill the room and the
donation table.
