Good Afternoon:
As part of National Library Week, today is "Take Action for Libraries Day," where library supporters across the US are encouraged to reach out to their representatives and remind them how vital libraries are to their communities. The American Library Association (ALA<https://www.ala.org/conferencesevents/take-action-for-libraries-day>) is asking supporters to reach out to their legislators to oppose federal book bans, and the New York Library Association (NYLA<https://app.oneclickpolitics.com/campaign-page?cid=yXscD3Fp5Fk3arX6LKflf&lang=en%22%20target=%22_>) is asking library advocates to remind Governor Hochul and State Legislators to fund libraries in the NYS FY27 budget.
As you know, public libraries are centers for community connection, engagement, and offer services to patrons of all ages and backgrounds, and it's important to make sure our elected representatives and their staff are reminded. Your voice as an advocate on behalf of the public libraries of Suffolk County is critical to ensuring continued support from our local officials.
Happy National Library Week!
Best,
Kerri
