PART-TIME CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN/ LIBRARIAN TRAINEE

The Islip Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented part-time Librarian I or Librarian Trainee for its Children’s Department. Trainees looking for a positive mentoring experience are encouraged to apply. The position will entail 4 to 11 hours per week, depending upon availability, including one weekly evening shift and one monthly Saturday rotation.

JOB DUTIES:
• Reference, research, and readers’ advisory services to parents and children.
• Participation in collection development.
 • Preparation of library displays.
• Assistance with development and execution of innovative programming for infants to fifth graders.

SKILLS:
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated interest and proficiency in technology.
• Ability to work independently, follow through with projects, and meet deadlines.
• Passion for customer service.

REQUIREMENT:
• MLS degree from an ALA-accredited school and Public Librarian certificate or actively enrolled in an accredited program for the Librarian Trainee position.

SALARY:
• Minimum rate of $28.00 per hour for Librarian Trainees. Final salary dependent upon credits completed.
• Minimum Librarian I rate of $34.00 per hour.
