Head of Youth Services

Description:  The Shelter Island Public Library is seeking a passionate and
experienced Youth Services Librarian to manage a small youth services
department.  The successful candidate must be personable, knowledgeable
about children’s and teen literature, a committed team player and
enthusiastic about providing excellent library service.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate must enjoy interacting with
children, teens and parents, be creative and innovative in program
planning, promotion and implementation, comfortable with providing remote
services and proficient in utilizing technology. The candidate must be able
adhere to a budget with respect to program costs and children’s and teen
collection development.  Interaction with the schools and other community
groups is a required part of the job. We are seeking a candidate who is
flexible and willing to pitch in to meet the various needs of the patrons
and the library.

Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS or equivalent. Knowledge of traditional
library services, emerging technologies and social media is required.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential. Starting
salary is $53,000.

This is a full-time position which includes weekend and evening hours.  To
