Colleagues,

SCLA's role in the library community is to support, educate, and advocate
for the library staff in public, academic, and special libraries. With that
responsibility in mind, last week, the SCLA Executive Board doubled down on
its advocacy obligation and voted to approve that we, as an association,
would send letters to our federal representatives demanding that they
support IMLS. Additionally, we have issued an official statement in
support of the IMLS. The statement can be found on our website.

We are happy to share that our Senator Gillibrand was one of the four
senators to sign a letter to the acting director of IMLS

that he follow the law and allocate the funds as legislated.

SCLA will continue in its role as an advocate for the library community,
but there is always strength in numbers. Therefore, we still need to
consider advocating as individuals, and remind our state officials of the
importance of libraries and library aid. If you have not already done so,
send a message to your local state legislator in support of the New York
State Senate budget bill, which would provide an increase in aid to
libraries.

NYLA makes it easy with the Take Action campaign. For added impact, simply
adding a paragraph at the beginning about how increased support helps you
help your patrons is excellent!

April 1st is the deadline so do as soon as you can!
