Due to a recent change to Nassau County civil service rules, NYC,
Westchester, and Suffolk residents are now able to apply to get on the
Librarian
1

civil service lists in Nassau County for the first time ever! Forty-seven
of Nassau's 54 public libraries are required to hire their Librarian 1s off
of this list, unlocking many new opportunities for entry-level librarians
interested in employment in Nassau's public libraries. To learn more, visit
https://nassaulibrary.org/civilservice/. There is an application deadline
of July 31, 2025 to get on the next Nassau County Civil Service
Commission's Librarian 1 and Librarian 1 (Bilingual) lists. Applications
are accepted throughout the year, but the lists are only updated every six
months.
