Yesterday, the entire staff of the Institute of Museum and Library Services
were placed on administrative leave.

We understand that comparatively this agency is not as large as other
government agencies but the work those employees do is linked to the
success of our colleagues in museums and libraries around the country.
The SCLA Board has voted to send a letter to NYS Senator Chuck Schumer to
encourage him to use this role as Senate Minority Leader to do what he must
to advocate for the IMLS and the support it gives libraries and museums
across the nation. Attached to this email is the approved letter that will
be sent today.
With this letter, SCLA has contacted every representative whose districts
make up Suffolk County, and our state's senators. The Suffolk County
Library Association will continue to support and advocate for its members
and we encourage everyone to echo those efforts and contact our elected
representatives <https://elections.ny.gov/new-york-state-elected-officials>
-- tell them that your association has already reached out and that you
agree with the letters sent. Remind them of the work that we all do for our
populations and communities and that you vote.
Thank you for your time and attention
