If you will be joining us at SCLS for a program or meeting, please let us
know in advance if you will need an accommodation that will make the event
accessible to you.
Please note: As the Outreach Administrator for the Suffolk Cooperative
Library System, I feel it is important to share information with library
staff that will be of value to public libraries and the patrons in their
community. The forwarding/sharing of the information that has not originated
from me, does not imply endorsement or support of a particular
company/organization/service.
ACCESS = LIFE
Accessibility Enables Community Inclusion
Is your library considering offering Summer Meals this year as part of
Summer Reading and Learning for "Adventure Begins at Your Library?"
See the newly updated Summer Meals page
<https://nyslibrary.libguides.com/c.php?g=1284706&p=9432928> on the State
Library Summer Reading site, with information from Hunger Solutions New York
about how libraries can become involved in this great program to benefit
families, students and your community. You can view the 2024 webinar on
"Summer Meals at NYS Libraries" and find out how to determine community need
and connect with a sponsoring organization in your area.
In 2023, 60 libraries were approved to serve summer meals or snacks through
the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), a federally funded program that
enables qualified organizations - including libraries - to serve free meals
to kids and teens in low-income areas. Be sure to share this information
with your library board and library administration, and encourage them to
consider participation in 2024.
