Part Time Librarian I or Trainee for Teen Services
at Longwood Public Library
The Longwood Public Library seeks an enthusiastic librarian to join our creative and dynamic team in the
Teen Services Department! The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in working with teens and
a passion for librarianship and will join us in serving 7th through 12th graders with empathy, humor, and
patience. While experience in a public library setting is a plus, we pride ourselves on offering excellent
training opportunities to build a stellar resume for trainees.
Duties:
• Providing friendly assistance and reader’s advisory to teens.
• Building and maintaining a current knowledge of teen books to aid in reader’s advisory and collection development.
• Designing innovative, engaging programs and community service opportunities that encourage
creativity, problem solving and critical thinking. We value our part time librarians’ unique skills and
provide the creative freedom and support to apply these skills to year-round programming.
• Assisting with ongoing programs such as Battle of the Books.
Qualifications:
• MLS from an ALA accredited library school or current enrollment in an accredited MLS program.
Schedule:
• Maximum of 17.5 hours per week including afternoon and evening hours and a weekend rotation.
• This is a union position which includes paid accrued time off and more outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
