[SCLA] Fw: CATS Presents Coding the Cosmos with NASA's Universe of Learning (10/5)

Join Dr. Kimberly Arcand as we learn ways to engage youth in the process of science using NASA Astrophysics data, with activities designed to encourage exploration of our universe and how we know what we know.

We'll also learn about free computer-based activities as well as paper/pencil or other hands-on activities, and help youth learn about computer-aided data collection and processing, an essential part of research using space- and ground-based telescopes. Scientists rely on computers not only to do calculations, but also to transform data into images. Coding and programming are some of the many tools that astronomers need to study the information from our space telescopes.

Dr. Kimberly Arcand is a leading expert in astronomy visualization and has been a pioneer in 3D imaging, printing, and extended reality applications with astrophysics data. She has worked for NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory since 1998. Her current projects include sonification of spatial data, screen-based holograms and other intersections of emerging technology and astrophysics.
