JOB POSTING
PART-TIME CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN
The Longwood Public Library is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic part-time librarian who believes in providing excellent customer service to children and parents. The successful candidate must be friendly, hard-working and knowledgeable about children’s literature, be flexible and work well under pressure. They must be knowledgeable about technology and digital services.
Requirements and duties:
* MLS from an ALA accredited library school or actively enrolled in an accredited ALA MLS program. Must meet all Suffolk County Civil Service requirements for a Children’s Librarian.
* Experience working with children (birth – 6th grade) and parents.
* Ability to provide reference, research and reader’s advisory service to parents and children in a busy Children’s room.
* A hands-on, working knowledge of digital services and library download services on a variety of devices and be comfortable showing and promoting these services to others.
* Technology skill set appropriate for an information professional in today’s environment.
* Desire to work as a team and collaborate with co-workers on projects and programs as well as develop and conduct innovative programs for children independently.
* Available to work daytime and evening hours, with Friday evenings a must, as well as a Saturday rotation.
Salary: $28.50 for Librarian I / $25.50 for Librarian Trainee
